Well, it’s been an exciting month of birdwatching! 🐦 Being winter hasn’t held back the amount of thrilling birding experiences we've witnessed—or the sheer number of birds we’ve seen. It truly has been an amazing month of birding, and I’ve shared it with some of the loveliest people I could have asked to share it with. We’ve welcomed guests from Norway, Germany, the USA, and England—to name a few. 🌍
The highlights include:
• A special birthday tour featuring Powerful Owls (Australia’s largest owl species) alongside so many sightings of Laughing Kookaburras and Sulphur-crested Cockatoos. 🦉
• A mega-fun full-day private “Birdapalooza” tour where we saw 75 bird species in a single Winter's day! Including Satin and Regent Bowerbirds, Grey Goshawk, White-bellied Sea-Eagle! ❄️🐦
• A private adventure to the Blue Mountains and Capertee Valley serenaded by Superb Lyrebirds from two directions—one was just 10 feet above us in a tree, calling out over 15 different bird calls and showing of his dancing prowess. My favourite was the Gang Gang Cockatoo call! Plus, the moment the Lyrebird mimicked a Pied Currawong, the real currawongs came to investigate—it was magical. 🗣️🎶
• We were mesmerized by a pair of Peregrine Falcons circling above Lincoln Rock in the Blue Mountains, their wings glowing orange in the rising sun—it was absolutely gorgeous! 🦅
• Spotting a Crescent Honeyeater, a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles on a carcass, and—my all-time favourite—20 Gang Gang Cockatoos. Hearing the popping sounds of gumnuts being eaten and the creaky door calls of the Gang Gangs was majestic! It was the most Gang Gangs I’ve ever seen in one spot in my life! 💖
• Topped it all off this week with lots of kangaroos, wallabies, wallaroos, and even three wombats out cruising during the daytime! 🦘🦫
It was an incredible July and a wonderful start to August! Please come and share in some of these amazing adventures around Sydney! Can’t wait to see you all soon!!
