My name is Simon Husher

Owner, Operator, and Guide at Birding Sydney and Beyond. Sydney Australia.

Hi, I’m Simon Husher—your guide, host, and fellow adventurer as we journey into the awe-inspiring world of birds and wildlife. My lifelong passion for nature, conservation, and sharing the wonders of our planet has brought me to where I am today: leading unforgettable birdwatching tours around Sydney and further afield with Birding Sydney and Beyond.

My love for birds hatched early, growing up exploring the mangroves, bush, and rainforests of Townsville in North Queensland. Inspired by my Reader’s Digest Complete Book of Australian Birds, I spent countless hours discovering new species and falling in love with the wild. This fascination grew into an adventurous life that’s taken me across Australia and Africa, following my passions and immersing myself in wildlife and conservation.

Over the years, I’ve worn many hats: a floor and wall tiler running my own business, a zookeeper at world-class institutions like Taronga Western Plains Zoo and Perth Zoo, a big cat handler at Australia Zoo (even working with the BBC on Tigers About the House), and a professional field guide in South Africa’s Greater Kruger at Makumu Private Game Lodge. Each role has deepened my connection to nature and inspired me to share this love with others.

Through Birding Sydney and Beyond, I’m excited to guide you through breathtaking habitats, uncover fascinating bird behaviours, and celebrate Sydney’s local culture. Whether it’s your first birding adventure or you’re a seasoned birder, my tours are tailored to connect you with nature, wildlife, and the joy of finding Australian birds. Along the way, we’ll enjoy great food, coffee, local beer, and even some Aussie music to set the tone for an unforgettable experience.
